Junior Rangers School Holiday Program – Back Swamp Reserve, Kerang
Join us for a free, fun-filled day of hands-on environmental and cultural learning at Back Swamp Reserve Kerang, northern Victoria! We are offering three interactive workshops throughout the day, exploring local wildlife, conservation and cultural heritage. We recommend booking into all workshops to enjoy the full Junior Rangers experience! Suitable for children of all ages.
Bush Walk – Flora and Fauna Survey
Explore the diverse habitats of Kerang Back Swamp Reserve while learning how to identify native plants and wildlife. Children will take part in a real flora and fauna survey, gaining an understanding of biodiversity and the importance of healthy ecosystems.
Marngrook and Traditional Games
Discover the history and cultural significance of Marngrook, a traditional Aboriginal ball game that inspired modern Aussie Rules Football. Children will learn traditional games, teamwork skills and cultural knowledge through fun hands-on activities.
Yedabila Habitat Pod Workshop
Learn how to create a Yedabila Habitat Pod using traditional Indigenous weaving techniques. Yedabila, meaning “animal” in Yorta Yorta language, are biodegradable habitat structures that provide shelter for wildlife following natural disasters and habitat loss. Children will build habitat pod’s while learning about wildlife conservation and traditional ecological knowledge.
